Parramatta - Hip Hop Basics
Start Date: Wednesday 6th May, 2009
Time: 8pm (1hr)
Location: Parramatta PCYC, 12 Hassall St, Parramatta
Cost: $99/6 weeks (Pls note: Parramatta PCYC require annual membership fee $25 Senior, $8 Concession)

NAISDA is Australia’s National Indigenous Dance College on the NSW Central Coast. The students studies include Cultural (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander), most forms of dance technique, theatre and academic. Performers have since gone on to have successful careers in Performing Arts such as Dance, Music, Theatre & Film. Darrio is very excited to be involved in teaching these kids Hip Hop from Monday 6th April - Thursday 9th April, 2009. Since the Indigenous people are such amazing story tellers in their own Cultural Dance form, it is with great pleasure that Darrio will teach Hip Hop, yet another avenue for Self expression through Dance!

Starting this Monday 2nd of February, Darrio will be in Launceston TN teaching workshops for the TASDANCE Summer School. This is a great program, formatted for all levels of student.

Sydney Festival First Night was the biggest dance event of the year. Darrio Street was honoured to be involved. It was really a first for all of Sydney.

Darrio and Friends will be performing Krump sets at the FESTIVAL OF SYDNEY FIRST NIGHT - Movers and Shakers at Martin Place on this Saturday January 10 7-11pm at Martin Place.
THIS IS ONE OF SYDNEY FESTIVAL’S FREE EVENTS - A DANCE SPECTACLE TO BEHOLD - COME DOWN AND JOIN THE DANCE FESTIVITIES AND SUPPORT SYDNEY’S VARIED AND TALENTED DANCE PERFORMERS.
Movers and Shakers – ground-breaking dance event with Australia’s leading dance companies. Non-stop, high octane moves from over 300 dancers on custom-built stages. Plus - The Pyrophone Juggernaut - a fire-fuelled musical spectacle.In recent years the popularity of dance in its myriad forms has exploded. In 2009 Festival First Night celebrates this on an epic scale.
Movers & Shakers is the centrepiece dance event, transforming Martin Place with non-stop works from some of Australia’s best dance companies and choreographers, alongside a range of dance associations and community groups.
A custom-built, five-storey-high stage will play host to a series of short, sharp, high octane works. These will be interspersed with breath-taking visuals mixed live by Sydney’s finest VJs. The non-stop action will alternate with a second stage and some surprising performance areas utilising Martin Place’s heritage streetscape.
Over 300 performers will dance in works choreographed by Shaun Parker, Narelle Benjamin, The Fondue Set and Marnie Palomares to name a few, with the program also including contributions from Sydney’s best Latin dancers, krumpers, yogis, breakers and parkour dudes to a pumping DJ soundtrack mixed live.
Movers & Shakers is directed by Nigel Jamieson, whose extensive international and national career includes a broad range of performing arts, spanning from theatre direction (Honour Bound in 2006, Gallipoli in 2008) to large-scale events (Olympic Games 2000, Commonwealth Games 2002).
