Takin’ it to da street!
6 Jan

Inspired by his Wiradjuri tradition, the circus and pop culture, Andrew has created a cavalcade of dazzling handpainted caravans in the huge industrial foyer of Carriageworks. Enter each of the caravans in Travelling Colony and immerse yourself in the stories of Redfern - its personalities, struggles and community.
Through this whirling zig-zag of caravans, archival footage, reflections and projections, visitors will be inspired by the histories of Redfern.

Poppin and Lockin’ with Darrio
Saturday 19 March
Popping and Locking are street funk dance styles. Popping is based on the technique of quickly contracting and relaxing muscles to cause a rapid movement, like you are a robot or machine. Locking involves freezing from a fast movement and “locking” in a certain position, and holding that position for a short while. Popping and Locking are really accessible ways to get into hip hop, concentrating on quick and clever illusions and precise form more than acrobatics and feats of strength. Perfect for all the family.
Krump with Darrio
Saturday 26 March
Krumping is a highly energetic form of street dance which has been created as a non-violent form of street battle. Super expressive, funky and fun, Krumping is a great way to express yourself, learn some moves and get a great insight into the culture of hip hop battles.
